The main risks
- Leverage: borrowed exposure magnifies losses as well as gains. With some products you can lose more than you deposited.
- Volatility: prices, and crypto prices in particular, can move sharply in minutes.
- Counterparty and platform risk: a broker or exchange can fail, be hacked or freeze withdrawals.
- Regulation: many crypto assets and platforms are lightly regulated or unregulated where you live, which can limit your protection if something goes wrong.
- Costs: spreads, commissions and financing charges reduce results on every trade, whether it wins or loses.
- Behaviour: fear, overconfidence and the urge to win back losses lead to decisions that make results worse.
